Stanford Sites is a free, self-service tool for building and managing websites for university work. It offers flexibility, integration with Stanford systems, and substantial functionality through Drupal.
Using the Stanford Sites platform means you can focus on your content and communication needs, without worry about security, maintenance, or vendor management. Stanford Sites are vigorously tested for browser compatibility, mobile responsiveness, and accessibility. Stanford Sites are hosted in the cloud on a system designed for fast performance, geo-diversity, and high availability. Stanford Sites are protected from malicious traffic by a web application firewall (WAF.)
Benefits of Stanford Sites
- Powerful. Stanford Sites is behind many of the highest-trafficked sites at the university. The content types and editing options are designed to provide flexibility, with features that can be used by research labs, academic units, business units, student groups, and more.
- Integrated. Stanford Sites integrates with profiles.stanford.edu, Stanford Events, and Explore Courses so that you can take advantage of information to build your site quickly and keep it up to date with less effort. Stanford Sites use SUNet authentication, which means managing site editors doesn't require setting passwords or worrying about removing access when staff leave the university.
- Supported. Stanford Sites offers a variety of free support, including monthly onboarding sessions, office hours, and support through ServiceNow. Need web editing support? Additional support can be contracted through Stanford Web Services.
- Accessible. Stanford Web Services is committed to providing a Stanford Sites environment that enables site owners to build and manage websites that are accessible to everyone and adhere to Stanford's Accessibility of Electronic Content policy (6.8.1).
- Easy. Need a new site or a reorganized version of your site quickly? A new site can be available in about an hour, ready for your content. Stanford Sites features drag and drop editing and features like page cloning to help you respond to new communication priorities. If you need reorganize, rebrand, or otherwise rework your online presence, we can clone a entire site.
- Centrally-funded. The Stanford Sites platform is free, including all the hosting, development, maintenance, testing, and design. This means that you don't need to worry about ongoing costs, unexpected costs, malicious web traffic, technology upgrades, or security.
- Backed up. Did you ever wish you could turn back time? Stanford Sites are backed up nightly. Backups are retained for quick retrieval for three days. Daily backups are available for the past 30 days, weekly backups available for 90 days, and monthly backups are available for 180 days.
