Backlog of features

The following features have been requested on Stanford Sites but are not yet slated for development. Check out our Roadmap to see what currently being explored, designed, or developed for Stanford Sites and Stanford Sites Intranet.

Filtered List Pages/Lists Paragraph

  • Filterable and comparable grid of cards
  • Alternate display options for Events, News, and People list pages
  • Ability to add secondary menus to Event, Event Series, Person, Publications, and News pages
  • Allow filtering on lists with AND to provide a list narrowed by two different taxonomy terms (e.g. "show faculty AND staff")
  • Clickable map link on event list view
  • Additional sorting options for Lists Paragraphs
  • For Filtered Lists Pages, filters that appear only if there are tagged items in that category
  • Show the news item's featured image when the news list is in a row with multiple items
  • Custom sorting/weighting for People lists
  • Ability to disable the display of featured images on Lists Paragraph displays
  • Ability to choose more than 3 displays in a layout

Taxonomy

  • Ability to bulk delete taxonomy terms

Filtered Lists Paragraph

  • Filter behavior doesn't narrow results when selecting additional terms
  • Ability to clear all selected terms
  • Keyword search
  • Ability to add message that indicates there are no results

Sitewide features

  • Ability to control size of custom logo in the masthead
  • Login button when there is not a local footer
  • Allow main Super Footer text area to span full width of the page when the link area is not used
  • Multilingual support

  • Ability to connect to personalization services

Navigation/menus

  • Ability to have the sidebar menu fully expanded
  • Breadcrumb navigation

  • Enable drop-down arrows to appear in the left hand navigation when sub-menu items are present

Embeddables

  • Ability to use inline styles with iframes or other embeddables
  • Responsive iframes

Text Area Paragraph

  • Display for images side by side
  • Footnote block style
  • Support for curly "smart" quotation marks and apostrophes

Card displays

  • Display equal heights in a row
  • Improved styling for cards with long titles
  • Ability to display the same card on more than one page

Publications

  • Additional sorting options for Publication lists
  • Additional CTA links on publications, including DOI link
  • Ability to indicate submitted or working papers in Publications
  • Imports from common bibliography tools
  • Ability to show the issue, volume, and other citation information on the individual node page
  • Altmetrics support
  • Ability to auto-populate publications from PubMed, Google Scholar, Stanford CAP Profiles, or another external database
  • Ability to add more fields to the Citation information (book chapters and editorship of an edited volume)
  • Option to add an author without a last name
  • MLA citation style
  • Display publication image when displaying the publication in a Lists Paragraph or on the Filtered List Page
  • Ability to show the middle initial for authors names on a list
  • Remove the extra period before the date

  • Additional display options for the page title
  • Ability to add an image in the Image Banner body field
  • Spefic display for photo credits/photo source for images
  • Transparent overlay of text on top of an image on cards or banners

Search

  • Additional filters on the search results page
  • Ability to change the default placeholder text for the search field "Search this site"
  • More streamlined display for the search field in the masthead

Users & Access

  • Support for Stanford Pass login
  • Support for Stanford Health Care login
  • Support for SLAC login
  • Support for non-SUNet login

News

  • Import of RSS feed for News
  • Import of news from external sources
  • More control over News featured image sizes when being shared through social media
  • More display options when using a list to display News

Person Content Type

  • Pronunciation field
  • Removal of required fields on Person
  • Hide contact icons when no phone number is listed
  • Override fields for imported content like photo, title, and bio

Stanford Sites Intranet

  • Remove social media icons on news items on Intranet automatically
  • Allow intranet site owners to define the display for 404 pages

Courses

  • Import for Stanford Online courses
  • Ability to control which taxonomy is used for the sidebar filter

Events

  • "Add to Calendar" functionality
  • Give option to import multi-day events as a single event with a date range
  • Add new Dek field with options to italics/underline
  • Option to have a featured image on an event

Image Gallery

  • Ability to add caption or description when using an Image Gallery
  • Additional alignment options when using an Image Gallery

Deprioritized or Rejected Feature Requests

Some requested features don't make it into our backlog. Reasons we may have for deprioritizing or rejecting a requested features include:

  • Accessibility. The proposed feature could not be created in a way that would be in compliance with our accessibility requirements.

  • Maintainability. The code or complexity of the feature would create a long-term maintenance burden that would compromise our ability to maintain Stanford Sites.

  • Supportability. The proposed feature would be too complex for most users, creating an unsustainable documentation and support burden.The

  • Usability. The proposed feature could compromise the usability of a site or runs counter to current research on user experience.

  • Reach. The proposed feature would not be generically useful for the range of sites on Stanford Sites. 

We review features in this category periodically and may re-prioritize them based on new research or understanding about about their use. If you have a feature that is needed to fulfill a functional requirement for your site, come talk to us! We can advise on other approaches, possible customizations, and more.

  • Opening links in new tab or new window
  • Carousel/slideshow of images
  • Automatic linking of Event back to Event Series
  • Support for underlines for non-linked text
  • Support for text color options in the Text Area Paragraph
