Person Page
The Person content type allows you to easily present, organize, and categorize a listing of the people in your organization. You can create profile pages and then create lists and teasers elsewhere on your site.
Person profiles can be added manually to your website, or can be configured to integrate with Stanford Profiles using the Person Importer.
Add a Person Profile
- Hover over All Content > Add Content in the administrative toolbar, and click Person.
- Add Name & Titles, External Source,Taxonomy, Bio & Content, Contact & Location Information, and Interests & Affiliations as desired.
- Add Name & Titles: Ensure that the individual’s full name and any relevant titles are correctly entered.
- External Source: If you have specified an External Source URL, the listing will automatically take the user off the site to the URL you have specified. By adding an external source URL, all teaser and list displays for this person will link to the external source instead of a page on this website. This must be an external URL such as https://example.com. This must be an external URL such as https://example.com.
- It is strongly recommended to use an External Source link feature if the page will be mostly blank (no contact information, no bio, etc.). This allows you to connect your profile to another relevant URL.An empty page may lead to issues with search engine optimization (SEO). If applicable, you can also link your profile to existing content on Stanford Profiles for added credibility and visibility.
- Taxonomy: Ability to organize and categorize the people listed on your dynamic People page.
- Bio & Content: If you are adding a profile image, use the person's name for the alternative text.
- Contact & Location Information: Include the individual’s email address, phone number, and office location if applicable.
- Interests & Affiliations: List any relevant professional interests, associations, or affiliations that the individual has.

You may wish to use the Person profile so that they appear in a list, but may not want to add any additional information to their Person profile page. In this case, youhave the option to link the profile straight out to an external source. When site visitors click on the person in a list or teaser, they will be directed off of your site to whatever URL you enter into the External Source field.
Common links might include:
- Personal website
- Person page on the person's primary department website
- Stanford Profile
- LinkedIn page
Simply enter the URL in the External Source field to take advantage of this option. This link will be used whenever the Person appears in a List or Teaser.
Link to a Stanford Profile
A common external source is Stanford Profiles. Keep in mind that profiles on either system are sometimes set to "Stanford-Only." If your audience is primarily internal , the Stanford-Only profile may be appropriate. If your audience is primarily external, you may wish to avoid linking to pages they will be unable to access. Note the difference in the URL:
Public: https://profiles.stanford.edu/<person's name>
Stanford-Only: https://profiles.stanford.edu/intranet/<person's name>
Accessibility and Person Images
Even if you've entered alt text for the profile photo on a Person page, that alt text will not appear in the source of the page. This is by design. The alt text would create unhelpful redundancy with the page title, which already describes the topic of the page.
